Flower Power

"Imagine this, of the flower power,
My every wish is your command
We will love each other,
Help one another.
Let there be fools who look and laugh and laugh and laugh.
Imagine this, I've got flower power!
Imagine this, I’ve got flower power!
~ Mud

Millie Mackintosh recently launched her second Millie Clothing collection. It is her first Spring/Summer collection and I fell in love with it the moment I saw the beautiful boho designs. Inspired by her love of Festivals, the collection has a cool 70s vibe with suede dresses, jackets, fun tassels and this, my favourite piece in the collection, a gorgeous floral maxi dress.

In cool shades of blue, the pretty dress features a contrasting mix of ditsy floral prints, a plunging v-neck with mock covered buttons, zip closure to the back, 3/4 length sleeves and two sexy, high splits to the front.

Millie's collection is full of great designs that will effortlessly take you from day to night. I've worn this dress to my favourite restaurant with towering heels and a tiny clutch and as styled here for a day out, with a pair of cool ankle boots by Ash; they have a bit of a country & western vibe that compliments the 70s feel of the dress perfectly.

This dress is set to be a Summer staple in my wardrobe; I absolutely love it and can't wait to get my greedy little hands on more Millie Clothing. You can check out the full collection here.

Bright Eyes, Blue Denim

"Blue-gray eyes, they change with the colour
Change with the sun, they run with the sight
They change with the wind but they're always bright
Bright eyes, blue denim
Bright eyes, blue denim"
~ Stevie Nicks

Denim is set to be a big trend for SS15 & when I say big I mean BIG! Denim has graced every catwalk this season, it can be seen in every high street store and I promise you, we will all be rocking something denim this Summer; not just jeans, we'll be wearing denim skirts, shorts, shirts, shoes, bags, dresses, even dungarees.

One of the big denim stories recently was Alexa Chung's fantastic range for US brand AG Denim. It was one of her cool designs that actually inspired this blog post; the beautiful 70s-esque 'Pixie' denim shirt dress. Oh I wanted it so much and I tried so hard to get it but alas, it sold out almost immediately.

As I was lamenting the fact that the dress would never be mine, my Husband reminded me that once upon a time, I'd actually owned a very similar dress. He suggested that as I seem incapable of getting rid of my old clothes, it might still be lurking somewhere in the dark, murky debts of my floordrobe. I went rummaging and believe it or not, I found the dress! I'd not worn it for at least 10 years so of course it didn't fit me anymore, the zip wouldn't even close over my chest, but inspired by a terrific up-cycling job my trusty Tailor did for me a while back (see here), I decided to take the dress to him to see what he could do with it.

And this is the fantastic result! The dress was shortened by about 10 inches and from that excess material, panels were added to both sides to give me all the room I needed to do up that all-important zipper. The alteration only cost me £25; the Alexa Chung dress would have cost me about £300!

My old denim dress has a bit of a Country & Western vibe about it so I styled it with a great pair of ankle boots from Ash (the closest thing I have to cowboy boots) and, the pièce de rèsistance, a super cool Buffalo Skull bolo tie.

Hiding Cat

"Macavity's a Mystery Cat: he's called the Hidden Paw;
For he's the master criminal who can defy the Law."
~ T. S. Eliot

The cute Hiding Cat print featured strongly in Karen Walkers 2014 Resort Collection; there was a cool tshirt, a cozy jumper & a cute-as-button tshirt dress. This season sees the print return on limited edition bags and purses.

It was the cute tshirt dress I fell in love with & I was absolutely delighted when it arrived in the post the other day; a lovely gift from friends in New Zealand! The dress has a relaxed fit and features a scoop neck, zip closure to the back and the sweet hiding cat print to the front.

Styled with multi-strap shoes and a red satchel, this is my first venture into my Spring wardrobe this year and God it felt good to ditch the tights & feel some much needed sunshine on my legs!
