More Self Love

"Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me."
~ Maya Angelou

PSC-brand is the gift that keeps on giving. I recently blogged about one of their perfect white t-shirts (here), and their pink 'Buy Me A Drink' sweater (here). When I saw the brands similar 'More Self Love' version of the sweater, I couldn't resist snapping it up!

As cosy as it's pink counterpart, the cream jumper has already become a staple in my wardrobe. It looks great teamed with short skirts, jeans of all shapes and styles, and is absolutely perfect worn with cool denim cut-off shorts on a cool summer evening.

I love the message on this sweater; 'More Self Love'; it is my new moto, my end-of-year resolution, and I will wear it emblazoned close to my heart, so that I don't forget it.

Wallflower

"She never danced, not in the open
But once she closed her dark blue eyes
She was the centre of the party.
She heard the sounds of all the laughter
Glasses full or being filled,
She was the princess of the non-existing empire
Of the wallflowers that blossom on an extraordinary day"
~ Peter Heerings

A lot of my fashion dreams have come true recently; from getting hold of an almost exact replica of a vintage outfit I'd seen Kate Moss wear years ago (here), to wearing extraordinarily beautiful dresses on the red carpet at film premieres (here and here), it's fair to say that it's been a pretty exciting time on the fashion front. There was however, one fashion dream I never could have imagined coming true. I never thought I would get a second chance to own the one that got away; my Gucci dress of dreams.

A glorious floral masterpiece, the dress first appeared on the Gucci catwalk in Fall 2015. It was so far out of my price range, and sold out so quickly, that all I could do was gaze longingly at pictures of it and dream of wearing it. And then, two years later, the great Alessandro Michele reimagined some Gucci classics for an exclusive 20-piece collection for Net-a-Porter. In doing so, he inadvertently made my fashion dream come true.

There, amongst the beautiful pieces emblazoned with Herons in flight, the 19th century tapestry prints, the Dionysus bag and the Ace sneakers, was my floral Gucci dress. This time I didn't hesitate, I snapped this beauty up before I could even take a breath! Everything about this dress is everything I love in a dress; the floral print, the rich red colourway, the loose 70s inspired silhouette, the fluttering pleated ruffles. It is, to me, the perfect dress.

Studio 54

"At studio 54, they’re waiting at the door
Can't get in - just can’t win.
This is New York by night, this is New York by night
So get ready for the time of your life"
~ Dennis Parker

Donna Ida Thornton’s 1973 Collection was inspired by the year she was born, and features retro styles with Californian vibes and soft, feminine styling. '73 was a pivotal year; it was a time of technological innovation, unique styles featuring bright, bold colours and patterns. It was a time of change across the political landscape, and great diversity in popular music. It was a time of individuality, when beautiful people partied the night away at the now infamous Studio 54.

Vibrant colours, inspired by the 70s disco look, feature on this aptly named 'Studio 54' noir cashmere knit. The fabulous sweater, with its loose fit, subtle balloon sleeves, and 6 colourful lurex stripes on the right arm, is a great modern take on a retro look. The off-the-shoulder detail gives it just the right amount of sexy and sweet.

Have fun styling the 'Studio 54' sweater with skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans, leather trousers, and cute skirts of all shapes and lengths - it goes with everything. I teamed it here with my favourite denim skinnies, and dressed it up a notch or two with great heels, and a beautiful embellished bag.
