Hey You With The Red Dress On

"I said hey you with the red dress on
I gotta find a way to take it off
I got a lot of love and it's growing strong
When I see you with your red dress on
You in that red dress
You in that red dress"
~ Magic!

I've been busy shopping the sales and this scarlet gem was, hands down, my best bargain. It was a difficult dress to find as it was from Vivetta's SS17 collection, but I searched and searched and I found it, in my size, and at a fraction of the original price. It was kind of meant to be, right? Needless to say, I snapped it up!

I wasn't surprised to read that classic children's Fairytales were the inspiration behind Vivetta's collection. Every piece told a story, make-believe characters came alive on the catwalk, creating a fashion fairytale that reawakened childlike imaginations.

This Victoriana, Red-Riding-Hood-esque dress with its unconventional vintage feel was the standout piece for me. It has a decadent, costume vibe, without it ever feeling like fancy dress. Flouncy ruffles and frills create a whimsical, ethereal charm that softens the dramatic Victoriana edge created by the high neckline and square bib front.

I feel very ladylike when I wear it. I feel like a character from Downton Abbey or a scarlet clad Handmaid from The Handmaid's Tale. I move differently in it; I am suddenly more graceful, more elegant, more lissome. It is a fairytale dress that will turn heads wherever it is worn.

Wardrobe Hibernation

“Fire, blankets, your arms,
They all bring warmth to my cold self.
Fire too hot to touch, blankets wrap me up,
Comfy, cosy, your arms, home.”
~ Michele M Diaz
I was curled up on the sofa reading a fashion magazine, when my eyes were drawn to a big, bold headline; ‘Get Ready For Wardrobe Hibernation Mode’ it stated, and I shuddered at the very thought. But then it slowly dawned on me; I was already there. I was sitting on the sofa wearing sweatpants, a slouchy top, and sneakers. I am slap bang in the middle of Wardrobe Hibernation right now, and do you know what? It’s bloody wonderful! The evenings are darker, the temperatures have plummeted, so who on earth wants to chill out at home in fancy clobber and high heels? The fashion pack are slipping into the cosiest, most comfortable, off-duty-wear, and they’ve never looked more cute.

Amsterdam based label Zoe Karssen, with its irreverent twist on leisurewear, is the leader of the pack where laid back casual cool is concerned. Set up in 2010, the Brand captures a pop-culture aesthetic and a rock and roll edge with its easy-to-wear tops and sweatpants, outspoken graphics, and lively lettering.

This long sleeved top is cut with a classic crew neckline and accented with funky green leopard print sleeves. Featuring an eye-catching 'Live Wild, Flower Child’ slogan to the front, this piece is the perfect match for the black, slouchy sweatpants with their sparkling green lurex cuffs and bold stripe detail to each side.

I finished off my Hibernation mode look with a pair of classic Golden Goose sneakers. Casual, cool, and artfully distressed, they have the look of an old favorite with none of the wear. I feel so comfortable I might never come out of wardrobe hibernation!

Daisy Dream

“Oh Daisy, please don't be blue.
The sunshine that I feel from you
Warms my very soul right through.
And I have dreams to spare.
Do not leave your chair
Just close your eyes
Drink the skies
And hold my hand.
Together we will rise
To walk upon the air.
Then Daisy, you will understand”
~ Kevin East

Another day, another Rixo London dress; my love affair with this fabulous brand is showing no signs of abating. The ‘Abigail’ dress is our first peek at what Rixo has to offer in their much anticipated Spring/Summer collection. A silk, mini-length, wrap dress, it screams laid back boho glam. It is a dress that makes you look good with absolutely zero effort, and the ‘Daisy Dream’ print is as Springy and as Summery as it gets. ‘Abigail’ makes the cold, snowy weather of New York seem like a million miles away, and it was a joy to wear in the LA sunshine.

I styled pretty ‘Abigail’ with a scarlet bag from my favourite handbag designer, the wonderfully talented Nadia Minkoff. The ‘Richmond’ midi tote has been a bestseller since it launched back in 2015, and has reappeared, reimagined in different colours, season after season. This is my second one; the first, a neutral, goes-with-anything shade of cognac. Made of fine, grainy Italian leather, with a raw suede interior and double handmade leather tassels, it really is the ultimate arm candy.

The pointed-toe, crackled metallic leather, ‘Darla’ mules (the perfect Summer shoe) by Michael Kors completed my laid-back, sunshiny, LA look to perfection.
