It's Da Bomb!

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening”
~ Coco Chanel

The iconic bomber jacket first appeared in the 1950s as military clothing, designed to keep Pilots safe and warm in their cockpits. In fact, it has had the most successful crossover to civilian wear of any utilitarian piece of clothing ever.

It has been through a number of evolutionary stages over the years and even became a style emblem for many youth movements, Skinheads in London, Punks in America, and the Americana subculture in Japan in the 60s and 70s. Legendary actors such as James Dean, Marlon Brando and, more recently Tom Cruise, and Harrison Ford wearing the style on the silver screen, has helped seal its fate as a timeless wardrobe essential.

A light bomber jacket is the perfect Summer cover up and whatever your budget, whatever your style, there is one out there for everyone; embroidered, sequinned, leather, plain, colourful, there are a myriad of different styles to chose from. This vibrant, tropical print one by Irish designers, Rant & Rave is, hands down, the best one I’ve seen all season.

Seeing Stars

“You've got me seeing stars brighter than ever
Shining just like diamonds do
I know that in time it could be all ours, brighter than ever
Your love is such a dream come true
I know, I know, I know I need you”
~ Borns

I’ve been waiting to get my hands on Manley’s Autumn/Winter collection since the middle of Summer! It’s finally here, and oh boy, was it worth the wait. The collection is Manley at its absolute finest; colours abound with a rich palate of aubergines, oranges, and hot pinks taking centre stage. The classic Manley styles are back and have been reimagined in these dramatic new shades, and with bigger, bolder prints. New styles steal the show, with longer length skirts, matching twin-sets, and embellished bags I want in every single colour. It wouldn’t be Manley of course without leather and studs galore. It is a magnificent collection.

The ‘Sadie’ shirt is my first purchase, and it’s not hard to see why I love it so much. Made from woven silk, with a buttery soft metallic leather bodice and collar, it is covered all over in the most beautiful celestial star print. I am quite literally seeing stars!

I styled it here with my favourite skinny jeans and a pair of Chloe boots I have wanted for the longest time. I hummed and hawed over the rather hefty price tag, and the sizing being more than a bit off (I went down two full sizes to get a perfect fit) but I have to say, I will never ever regret investing in the now iconic ‘Susanna’ boots. They go with absolutely everything, they are so comfy I could be wearing slippers, and they are quite simply cool as feck.

Cherry Blossom

"Are we to look at cherry blossoms only in full bloom, the moon only when it is cloudless? To long for the moon while looking on the rain, to lower the blinds and be unaware of the passing of spring—these are even more deeply moving. Branches about to blossom or gardens strewn with faded flowers are worthier of our admiration"
~ Yoshida Kenko, Essays In Idleness

The hottest fashion label of the moment is Rixo London. Offering timeless pieces with a retro 70s feel, their collections can be seen gracing the pages of all the best fashion magazines, and they have become the go-to favourites of fashionistas and celebrities alike. Everyone wants a piece of Rixo.

For their Fall '17 collection, the brands founders Henrietta and Orlagh got their inspiration from Shanghai chic, with vintage inspired pieces adorned with moons, clouds, bamboo, brightly coloured blossoms, and hand-painted jungle prints. I won't lie, I fell in love with the entire collection, but the 'Alanna' dress, with its bold yet sophisticated print, was the hero piece for me. Cut from silk-jacquard, the dress is panelled with cherry blossom florals in vibrant, contrasting colours. Fine pleats at the waist, and gathering under the bust are a nod to kimono styles, while the buttoned cuffs and shorter hemline add a modern, contemporary touch.

I jazzed my dress up even more by pairing it with an equally vibrant Rixo star print neckscarf. I love the unexpected clash of colours and prints. A simple pair of flats and some 70s inspired accessories were the finishing touches to a show-stopping look that is full of Eastern Promise.

Manley Dungarees

Dungarees are set to be a big thing this season. You can get them in cute summery shorts styles, full length trousers or you can rock the look the feminine way with a dungaree style dress.

The 'Austin' dress, by one of my favourite Designers Emma Manley, is a fantastic take on the trend. In a neutral silver colour, it is anything but manly; it features a leather bodice (a beautiful, unexpected change from the traditional denim usually associated with dungarees) with a single pocket detail to the centre front, snap fasteners at the hip, strap fastening to the front and a fully lined skirt that sits slightly longer at the back.

I styled my dress with a very tailored crisp white shirt. Sticking with the muted colour of the dress I added metallic heels and a bright red lipstick added a lovely pop of colour. My treasured Chloe mini 'Paddington' bag to carry all my essentials completed the look.

The styling possibilities for a piece like this are endless; it can be teamed with a feminine, girly blouse, a cool t-shirt or a cute crop top for a great 90s throwback look.

Hey Mr DJ!

It seems to have become something of a tradition that every time I go into London with my lovely Husband, he buys me something beautiful in my favourite French store Maje! My most recent treat is the absolutely delicious 'DJ' playsuit and I love love love it; it is Parisian style at its very best.

The playsuit, with its sultry combination of lace & silk, hints at a romantic, lingerie inspired look. It has short sleeves, a sexy open back, slit pockets to the side and a cinched in, food friendly (always a good thing!) elasticated waist.

I fell in love with it so much I literally wore it straight from the store! Luckily the accessories I was already wearing looked good with it! The gladiator sandals were a fantastic purchase many years ago from New Look and the Chloe 'Paddington' bag is my favourite handbag of all time! My much loved Chanel sunnies completed this cool, simple Summer look.

Free Spirit

The 'Free' shirt is another gorgeous piece from Winter Kate's stunning S/S13 collection. It is a perfect example of the brands bohemian aesthetic; a style reminiscent of the 60s and 70s that I love so much.

Dip dyed in a delicate cream/peach colourway, the shirt is made from a soft silk/cotton blend and features button through fastening to the front, cuffed sleeves and a fluid, flowing shape thanks to the cape-like, slightly longer back that billows behind as you walk!

Styled simply with denim shorts and neutral toned ankle boots, this is 100% me; it is the perfect laid-back Summer outfit!
