Through His Eyes

“In this fake world, with his love so true
And him always by my side, it feels so good..
False images everywhere, world full of lies
I see my true self in his enticing eyes.... “

Studio 54

"At studio 54, they’re waiting at the door
Can't get in - just can’t win.
This is New York by night, this is New York by night
So get ready for the time of your life"
~ Dennis Parker

Donna Ida Thornton’s 1973 Collection was inspired by the year she was born, and features retro styles with Californian vibes and soft, feminine styling. '73 was a pivotal year; it was a time of technological innovation, unique styles featuring bright, bold colours and patterns. It was a time of change across the political landscape, and great diversity in popular music. It was a time of individuality, when beautiful people partied the night away at the now infamous Studio 54.

Vibrant colours, inspired by the 70s disco look, feature on this aptly named 'Studio 54' noir cashmere knit. The fabulous sweater, with its loose fit, subtle balloon sleeves, and 6 colourful lurex stripes on the right arm, is a great modern take on a retro look. The off-the-shoulder detail gives it just the right amount of sexy and sweet.

Have fun styling the 'Studio 54' sweater with skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans, leather trousers, and cute skirts of all shapes and lengths - it goes with everything. I teamed it here with my favourite denim skinnies, and dressed it up a notch or two with great heels, and a beautiful embellished bag.

Wear Me Like A Sweater

"Wear me like a sweater,
Close to your heart.
Wear me like a sweater,
So I can hear the rush of your pulse in my ear"
~ Pluie D'ete

It has been well documented in this blog how much I love Bella Freud sweaters. Stylish, cool, cozy, lush, versatile - they are simply perfect sweaters. I'm not sure I have enough of them to justify calling my little hoard a collection, but my BF jumpers are much loved, and worn often.

This one is my favourite. Inspired by Patti Smith, and the early New York punk scene in the 70's, this 100% pure merino wool knitted jumper features the brands now iconic '1970' ivory motif to the front; it is slim fitting, with a ribbed crew neck, hem and cuffs, and, best of all, it is the most wonderful, vibrant shade of red.

I styled it here with a fabulous pair of jeans by denim Queen Donna Ida (the best sale bargain ever), a great pair of silver Camilla Elphick ankle boots, and a very cool, backpack by Nadia Minkoff. The grey bag compliments the colour of the boots, and finishes the look off perfectly. As practical as it is beautiful, the Brixton bag has very quickly become my go-to bag. It is the perfect size to take on a plane, to accompany me on my regular jaunts into London, and it's cool enough to funk up any outfit.

Quick As A Cat

A Yo! Sushi restaurant has just opened near where I live; I cannot even tell you how happy this makes me as I LOVE sushi and up to now Hubby & I have had to travel quite a distance to get to our nearest Sushi restaurant! This fact, combined with the elusive British Summer sun making a very welcome appearance, made for a fantastic night out with lovely friends!

For our first evening at our new local Yo! Sushi I went for a comfortable, simple Summer look. I wore a fantastic pair of Charley 5.0 leopard print denim running style shorts. I bought these in two different sizes (from The Raw Denim Bar) as they can be styled completely differently depending on the fit.

I paired them with a very cool Zoe Tees vintage t-shirt in ivory from Donna Ida, who have the best selection of t-shirts you'll ever find under one roof. I love the sexy cut out detail on the shoulder of this great tee, it makes a very casual piece feel a little bit more glamorous. To add a slightly more dressed up feel I added my favourite studded Christian Louboutin shoes.

I then proceeded to eat my body weight in sushi (thank goodness for an elasticated waistband!) and a top night was had by all!

White Shirt Day

Saturday May 19th is Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) White Shirt Day 2012. Aussie store Witchery have really embraced this campaign and have a fantastic white shirt collection that includes a specially designed Project D shirt (AUS$149.95); 100% of the gross proceeds from the sale of the white shirt capsule collection will go directly to the OCRF. The collection is now available online and they ship internationally.

I love a man in a Tuxedo and I always fancied the idea of wearing one myself (with a bit of a twist), so I knew exactly how I wanted to wear my white shirt. These Miss Selfridge shorts are so smart & so tailored, they immediately lend themselves to that 'tux with a twist' look. I found the amazing oversized black sequin bow tie in Topshop. It only cost £8 so I bought two of them and cut the dangley bits off one (as worn here) for a more dressed up look & kept the other intact for a more casual, funky look.

Winter Kate have jackets for every occasion and my much worn, much loved, 'James' black silk jacket is perfect for this cool take on the tux. It was a sale buy last year, reduced from almost £300 to an amazing £70!

I bought the shirt last December. I wanted an actual black tie, dress shirt but was surprised to discover there aren't many around that are specifically made for women. I eventually found this one in Hugo Boss. They had a small but fabulous selection of women's dress shirts. I chose a very simple, classic design & it works perfectly with the outfit.

The gorgeous Chanel bag was a gift a few years ago from my lovely Husband. As I recall, there wasn't even a special occasion, he just bought it for me because it was beautiful, I loved it and he is fabulous! It was such an investment buy, as is anything from the fashion temple that is Chanel! The bag adds a gorgeous splash of colour to the monochrome look and I chose a rich pink lipstick to compliment it.

So this is what I'll be wearing on May 19th. Will you be donning a white shirt to show your support and help raise awareness for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation? You can follow the campaign on Twitter: @WhiteShirt2012.
