Through His Eyes

“In this fake world, with his love so true
And him always by my side, it feels so good..
False images everywhere, world full of lies
I see my true self in his enticing eyes.... “

Oh Buoy!

"There is something singular in the rhythms of the bell buoy,
as it rings in the wake of an unknown vessel already passing on to its destination"
~ Charles Pierre

Nautical styles are always in fashion and there is a very romantic image of life on the sea, or olden-day Summers spent on the French Riviera associated with a Sailor inspired look. From the classic striped Breton, to pea coats, anchor prints, and cosy fishermen jumpers, the nautical look is an easy, fun trend to embrace.

This See By Chloe silk playsuit is Riviera style chic at its best. A very modern take on the Seafarer trend, it has a relaxed, straight fit, with contrasting white embroidered trims. The zip front, prim point collar and tassel-ended neck tie add a 70s feel. Tan accessories would enhance this retro look perfectly.

For a much more laid-back edge I styled my nautical number with a classic pair of white Converse, a cute Doll Face bag by Lulu Guinness, cheap as chips Cat's eye sunglasses from High Street favourite Target, and the result is a look that is fresh, clean and chic. Whatever your take on the trend is, it's time to baton down the hatches, and jump on-board! A keg of rum is optional.

Be Still My Bleeding Heart

"Heaven-taught, the maiden loves, the poet sings.
Dear bleeding heart, poor broken wings!
So has it ever been through all the years,
For song the sorrow, for love the tears."
~ John Vance Cheney

Natalie B Coleman's SS15 collection, entitled 'Be Still My Bleeding Heart' is one of my favourites of all her wonderful collections. Inspired by the sad loss of her Mother, the Sacred Heart, dreamy Summer days and romance, the collection is feminine, poignant, and playful, with "a bit of Guns n' Roses attitude in there".

I've already blogged about a very beautiful white dress from this collection (see here) and I am delighted to add this very cool slogan tshirt to my little blog. The tee has a relaxed fit and features the name of the collection across the front. Each letter is made of clusters of red rose petals; this beautiful rose screen print can be seen on a number pieces in Natalie's beautiful collection.

I styled my cool tee with a great, green skirt from Chloe's diffusion line, See by Chloe; described as being girly, delicate & feminine, their designs are aimed at the girl who likes to be seen as ladylike, and a little bit naughty. I like that. I like that a lot.

Blue & Green Should Never Be Seen

"Blue and green should never be seen, except with something in between"
~ Unknown

It's an old saying and we all know it very well, but does this colour rule still apply today? I don't think it does; and even if it did, rules are made to be broken, especially in the wonderful world of fashion.

I did however, wonder where this well known old rhyme/rule came from but it seems very little is known about its origin. One story I came across tells of Sailors thinking it bad luck to paint a boat green, as it couldn't easily be seen against the blue of the sea if it capsized. Another suggests that the two colours are too similar to be easily distinguished in black and white films.

I think the colours go beautifully together; sitting side by side on the colour wheel they create a very natural, harmonious combination. Just take a look at the green grass and the blue sky; it is perfect.

My beautiful Bella Freud 1970 jumper is simply the coolest jumper I have ever owned. I love it and wear it often, with jeans, shorts and every skirt in my wardrobe (blogged previously here). Styled here with a gorgeous green mini skirt, I think this look proves once & for all that blue and green definitely should be seen!

Poupee

The beautiful 'Poupee' dress is my favourite piece from Twenty8twelve's fabulous pre-Fall13 collection. It had only just hit the store when I snapped it up and it is already selling out fast!

Poupee means doll or poppet and it's a very apt name for this delicate, girly piece. A beautiful boho style dress, it features short sleeves, pleats at the waist, a fabulous contrast embroidery in blue throughout and scalloped edges for a delicate finish. It has a very relaxed fit & looks beautiful worn loose and flowing or styled with a belt for a slightly more structured look.

I chose to style the dress with a belt for this Blog post. It's an old, much loved leather belt from one of Twenty8twelve's very first collections. I wore a cool pair of See by Chloe peep-toe shoe boots to add a tougher edge to the dress & finished the look off with a great red satchel from the Cambridge Satchel Co.

Plain Sailing

Savannah Miller's S/S13 collection was inspired by the cult 1969 movie 'More' by Barbette Shroeder. Full of wonderful, easy to wear pieces such as 1970s high-waisted jeans, pretty Summer dresses, sexy cut-out swimwear, colourful kaftans and cork wedges in bright Summery hues, it is a fresh, modern, bohemian collection with a cool, rock & roll edge.

I fell in love with this sweet sailor dress as soon as I spied it in the Lookbook; made of 100% cotton it features 3/4 length sleeves, a cute sailor collar that ties at the neck, button fastening at the back and on the cuffs, pleats in the skirt and it comes in a pretty shade of denim blue.

I styled it with great peep-toe shoe boots from See by Chloe; they add a harder, funkier edge to an otherwise sweet, girlie look. We did the photoshoot for this blog post in the most vicious of winds; I'm genuinely surprised we had a single useable photo as the wind literally tried to undress me & blow my pretty dress into the next County!

The 'Savannah' collection is available exclusively online at www.nelly.com. Check it out and treat yourself, you won't regret it!
