It's Da Bomb!

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening”
~ Coco Chanel

The iconic bomber jacket first appeared in the 1950s as military clothing, designed to keep Pilots safe and warm in their cockpits. In fact, it has had the most successful crossover to civilian wear of any utilitarian piece of clothing ever.

It has been through a number of evolutionary stages over the years and even became a style emblem for many youth movements, Skinheads in London, Punks in America, and the Americana subculture in Japan in the 60s and 70s. Legendary actors such as James Dean, Marlon Brando and, more recently Tom Cruise, and Harrison Ford wearing the style on the silver screen, has helped seal its fate as a timeless wardrobe essential.

A light bomber jacket is the perfect Summer cover up and whatever your budget, whatever your style, there is one out there for everyone; embroidered, sequinned, leather, plain, colourful, there are a myriad of different styles to chose from. This vibrant, tropical print one by Irish designers, Rant & Rave is, hands down, the best one I’ve seen all season.

Green Piece

“The dawn was apple-green,
The sky was green wine held up in the sun,
The moon was a golden petal between.
She opened her eyes, and green
They shone, clear like flowers undone
For the first time, now for the first time seen.”
~ D H Lawrence

This is the second piece I’ve bought from Rat & Boa (I blogged about the very beautiful ‘Anja’ dress here), and even as I ordered that dress, I knew I would go back to get the equally gorgeous ‘Margeaux’ jacket at some point. Cut from luxurious, textured silk, this tuxedo style robe features a beautiful Oriental print set against a bold, emerald green background. It’s the perfect layering piece, and the Designers really hit the nail on the head when they described it as “part Bourgeois, part vintage dream”.

A wearable, eclectic, very cool piece, it can be worn open for a laid back look, or the belt can be tied to add structure, for a more sophisticated look. It’s something I can wear with denim shorts in the Summer (my favourite way to wear it), or I can throw it over a little black dress for a seriously sexy date night outfit.

I kept my look very simple here; I teamed the jacket with black skinny jeans, a black tee, an embellished Manley bag, classic black Louboutin heels, and a fantastic initial necklace by Irish jewellery brand Edge Only. The result is a cool, modern look, that gives a little nod to the 70s boho vibe I love so much. It’s the perfect daytime, nighttime, anytime look.

Through His Eyes

“In this fake world, with his love so true
And him always by my side, it feels so good..
False images everywhere, world full of lies
I see my true self in his enticing eyes.... “

Wallflower

"She never danced, not in the open
But once she closed her dark blue eyes
She was the centre of the party.
She heard the sounds of all the laughter
Glasses full or being filled,
She was the princess of the non-existing empire
Of the wallflowers that blossom on an extraordinary day"
~ Peter Heerings

A lot of my fashion dreams have come true recently; from getting hold of an almost exact replica of a vintage outfit I'd seen Kate Moss wear years ago (here), to wearing extraordinarily beautiful dresses on the red carpet at film premieres (here and here), it's fair to say that it's been a pretty exciting time on the fashion front. There was however, one fashion dream I never could have imagined coming true. I never thought I would get a second chance to own the one that got away; my Gucci dress of dreams.

A glorious floral masterpiece, the dress first appeared on the Gucci catwalk in Fall 2015. It was so far out of my price range, and sold out so quickly, that all I could do was gaze longingly at pictures of it and dream of wearing it. And then, two years later, the great Alessandro Michele reimagined some Gucci classics for an exclusive 20-piece collection for Net-a-Porter. In doing so, he inadvertently made my fashion dream come true.

There, amongst the beautiful pieces emblazoned with Herons in flight, the 19th century tapestry prints, the Dionysus bag and the Ace sneakers, was my floral Gucci dress. This time I didn't hesitate, I snapped this beauty up before I could even take a breath! Everything about this dress is everything I love in a dress; the floral print, the rich red colourway, the loose 70s inspired silhouette, the fluttering pleated ruffles. It is, to me, the perfect dress.

Girl In Purple Dress

"Girl in purple dress, you are thin.
Skin, white yet fogging blue,
like the shadow, of the Moons glow, on the back porch,
where a Spanish uno rosa, is pink petal-less.
Girl thin moonshine purple dress,
you are the winter abandoned rose,
which I still reminisce,
just like sidewalks, roads, and windows, do, after it rains"
~ Savio

Purple is my favourite colour. Sitting between red and blue on the colour spectrum, it symbolises magick, mystery, spirituality, the sub-conscious, creativity, dignity, and royalty. It is said that if you surround yourself with purple, you will have peace of mind, so today I am literally wrapping myself up in this gorgeous, opulent colour!

I'm wearing Gucci. Purple Gucci. I am wearing the purple Gucci dress of dreams, and it really doesn't get much better than that in my little fashion world. A very beautiful, wonderfully chic lady gave me this dress. I'm lucky enough to be the same size as her, and I am so happy to become the next part of the story of this stunning piece.

Made from a silk jersey material, the dress features long sleeves, a gold zip to the back, and soft draping and ruching that will flatter any figure. The front frill and deep V-neckline immediately elongate a shorter frame, and the perfectly placed brooch detail draws eyes to a sexy flash of cleavage. A nude pair of heels adds length to tanned legs, and an oversized clutch in the same flesh coloured tone finishes this glamorous look off to perfection.
